Positive Impact & Responsible Travel

We invite you to join us at Sayari Camp as we seek to make a positive and sustainable impact on the Northern Serengeti through responsible tourism.

Asilia Approach

Our goal is to be a role model in sustainable tourism as we seek to create lasting positive impacts on both the natural habitats and the lives of the people in the areas in which we have a presence. At the heart of our organization is a sincere and strongly developed sustainability agenda as we have no doubt that conservation and community development is crucial for our long-term success.

Without compromising on quality or experience, our lodges and camps answer to the highest demands on eco-tourism.We strongly believe and encourage the positive force that the combination of our guests, our travel industry partners and our own operations can make to the areas we operate in. Our approach to how we operate can be summarized as one of ‘Collaborative Conservation’.

The Northern Serengeti is a good example of the impact of this approach. This area of the park, nowadays generally recognized as the best part of the park, had no tourism presence whatsoever for a decade prior to Asilia launching Sayari Camp in 2005. After a period of intense cooperation with Tanzania’s National Park authorities to make the area ready for eco-tourism and its positive impacts the Northern Serengeti is now a sustainable tourism destination with a handful of permanent safari camps and lodges.

Positive impact at Sayari Camp

Sayari Camp has played a pivotal role in the long-term conservation of the northwestern Serengeti. The arrival of the camp has secured the long term conservation of this area of the park and employment for the communities living on the boundary of the park.

Some of our actions at Sayari Camp include:
  • When we opened in 2005 we partnered with the Honeyguide Foundation to help local people grow vegetables which would then be bought by the camp, thus providing an alternative source of income. The project has gone from strength to strength and now has a permanent office, is working with more villages and is selling vegetables to Sayari and other safari camps.

  • We are proud to be involved in Pack for a Purpose. Donations brought by guests go to Machochwe Secondary School which we also support with an annual donation of US$ 1000.

  • We are dedicated supporter of the Rhino Conservation Programme in the Serengeti and our driver/resident guides have been trained to identify the individual rhinos in the north and participate in the research by reporting and photographing/identifying any rhinos sighted in the area.
We Support...

CONSERVATION, COMMUNITY, ECO-TOURISM, COLLABORATION

Together with its sister Asilia camps, Sayari Camp contributes to the conservation of the invaluable Serengeti ecosystem. Supporting responsible tourism inside the park and working on tangible development projects with the communities around the park, Asilia is playing an important role in the conservation of the most famous wildlife park in the world.
